Men's Patriarchal Wound: A Chat w/William Diplock, Psychotherapist & Trainer for Gender Equity & Reconciliation International (GERI)
May 22, 2024 Season 3 Episode 11
Deborah Lukovich, PhD

In this episode, I’m excited to have a chat with William Diplock, Senior Trainer and Program Coordinator for Gender Equity & Reconciliation International, in Brisbane, Australia.

William is a Senior GERI Trainer and Program Coordinator for GERI, in Brisbane, Australia. GERI stands for Gender Equity & Reconciliation International. I will include a link to my interview with its founders. And William is one of the 16 contributors to the book, Gender Equity & Reconciliation: Thirty Years of Healing the Most Ancient Wound in the Human Family.

You could say that the overarching task of humanity right now is the reconciliation of the oldest wound of humanity, which is patriarchy. This wound manifests in very devious ways and once you understand it, you’ll see it everywhere you sense a power imbalance.

Current research shows that vulnerability is required for deep connection, and it is deep connection that will save us and the planet. But now, as Carol Gilligan, American feminist, ethicist, and psychologist suggests in her book Why Does Patriarchy Persist, patriarchy has become a defense mechanism for all of us, used to avoid the vulnerability that is required for deep connection, even with ourselves.

Someone must step up and go first in this reconciliation project, and that’s where William Diplock comes in and his work with a growing movement of brave men, women, and those who transcend gender.
